Food Share Good Food Box Program

March 25 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 8:30 am on Thursday, repeating until Apr 29, 2021

The program runs every Thursday morning from 8:30 am until approximately noon. It takes place in the Centennial Building at Beban Park. The food, in the form of fresh produce, is dropped off on pallets. Tables are set up in a horseshoe arrangement so that an assembly line process can be utilized to fill bags that are passed along. The produce usually consists of fresh fruit and vegetables (onions, potatoes, carrots, celery, cauliflower, oranges, apples and bananas, and other seasonal items). We fill approximately 425 bags every week, which are distributed to families in Nanaimo by Food Share and the Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre.

Volunteers are needed for bagging and for deliveries. Strict COVID protocols are followed – social distancing, mask wearing, and frequent hand cleaning. Bagging volunteers can only help once every two weeks. Delivery persons can come every week if they can.

Anyone who would like to volunteer can get in touch with Ev Boegh (ev@boegh.ca) to get on the schedule. This project is truly a “hands on” effort, good exercise and helps to make a difference in our community.
